What Do You Want Me to Do For You?

On the Road from Jericho to Jerusalem, Jesus meets a blind man named Bartimaeus. Instead of simply healing him, Jesus first asks him what he wants God to do for him. The Oddness of this question becomes clear when you look at the preceding story in Matthew and Mark's Gospels, where both include Jesus asking the same question to two other people.
